About
My name is Christopher Taylor (“Taylor Family Mediation”). After over a decade of experience litigating
family law and divorce cases, I became a Florida Supreme Court Certified Family Mediator.
Experience has taught me that in most cases parties achieve better outcomes through mediated
agreements. Serving both self-represented parties and those with attorneys, Christopher brings
valuable experience to assist the parties to reach mediated agreements.
Why Mediation
Courts are limited by statute and case law in what they can order in family law and divorce
cases. We have excellent judges in Northeast Florida but in most cases a judge will only have a
few hours or at most days to learn the facts of your case before entering a life altering judgment. People
typically know what will work best for their situation. Mediation affords parties wider latitude
than a Court would have at trial to reach an agreement that works for them.
Mediation Principles
Confidentiality
Confidentiality is the cornerstone of the mediation process. This allows parties to explore options
and take positions they would not take in Court without fear that discussions will be used
future legal proceedings. If the parties are unable to reach an agreement, in most cases, all the court will know is the parties reached an impasse.
Neutrality
The mediator is a neutral in the mediation process. Mediators do not take sides. The mediator’s
role is to ensure constructive negotiations between the parties where each party has an equal
opportunity to express their concerns and perspectives. By maintaining neutrality, the mediator
facilitates the parties’ own creativity to arrive at solutions that work for them.
Self-Determination
The core of the mediation process is self-determination. There is no requirement to reach an
agreement. The parties can walk away from mediation at any time. With that said, mediation has
a high success rate because it allows parties to take an active role in the decision-making process,
ensuring the parties retain control over the outcome of their family law and divorce case. In
contrast, courts can impose a judgment that neither party desires. By actively participating in the
decision-making process, parties often reach more satisfactory and long-lasting solutions to their
cases.
Mediation Services
Divorce Mediation
Taylor Family Mediation assists parties to reach agreements related to timesharing, parental
responsibility, equitable division of assets and liabilities, child support, attorney’s fees, and
alimony in divorce cases. The parties can resolve all of their issues at mediation or reach partial
agreements asking the court to decide issues they cannot agree upon.
Paternity Mediation
Paternity cases involve timesharing, parental responsibility, attorney’s fees, and child support
issues between unmarried parents. Taylor Family Mediation assists parents to reach agreements
related to the best interests of their children in the context of the family’s unique situation.
Post-Judgment Matters
Family law and divorce judgments often impose obligations on parties that last years or decades.
What worked for the parties in year one may not work years later. Mediation provides a forum to
modify their judgment and find solutions that work for both parties. Courts are limited in what they
are able to do in post-judgment matters. The parties have much greater latitude to modify their
final judgment at mediation than a court can do in a formal proceeding.
